Rohan Bopanna, known as specialist in doubles, won the first round of the ATP Apia International on Tuesday, along with his Pakistani partner Aisam-ul-Qureshi. This is their first win of the new year after registering their first round exit from Chennai Open held last week.
This third seeded Indo-Pak pair took 1 hour 41 minutes to defeat the Dutch pair, Jean-Julien Roger and Horia Tecau in the first round of the hard court event. Bopanna-Qureshi won the first set which went Tug Of War 7-6(5) and then lost the second set 6-7(2). In the final set, they took a comeback and won with ease 10-2.
Bopanna-Qureshi to face Treat Huey and Briton Dominic Inglot in the second round which would not be a walk in a park. They defeated the Spanish pair, Pablo Andujar and David Marrero, in the straightr sets(6-4,6-3).
